Opening up a cocoa pod, revealing the cocoa beans we use to make chocolate

On the patio of our Chocolate Factory in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania Nathan cuts open a cocoa pod & shows us the fresh bean inside. The white flesh protecting the cocoa beans is similar to the texture of lychee. The bean itself is a deep purple inside! Cocoa beans are fermented before transport to out of the country of origin to prevent damage + rot, it's an exciting day for us to have a fresh one on hand!
